This mini optical power meter measures fibre optic light levels from -70 to +6dBm across 6 selectable wavelengths, showing the reading in linear mW and in dBm at the same time, with versions that add a 10mW visual fault locator and an RJ45 network cable test.
The pocket-sized meter has a backlit LCD that shows the wavelength, battery level and power reading together. The optical port takes SC, FC and ST connectors. Keys on the front give power, REF, dB, wavelength (λ), LIGHT and LED functions, and the meter has a built-in torch, switchable backlight, automatic power off and wavelength memory. It can also run from an external USB supply such as a power bank or a computer. The basic version runs on dry batteries (not included); the VFL and RJ45 versions are labelled for a rechargeable lithium battery and come with a network test remote with 8 numbered lights for checking each wire of a LAN cable.
Features and Benefits
- -70 to +6dBm range (a -50 to +26dBm version is also offered): covers FTTH and PON signal levels.
- 6 selectable wavelengths with wavelength memory: the meter starts on the wavelength you last used.
- mW and dBm shown together: no conversion needed when you log results.
- SC, FC and ST connector interface: fits the common field connectors.
- 10mW VFL on the combo versions: find breaks and bends without a second tool.
- RJ45 network test with remote: check LAN cable wiring with the same unit.
- Torch, backlight switch and auto power off: easier work in cabinets and longer battery life.
Applications
- Measuring received power on FTTH drops, ONTs and splitters.
- Checking link loss on patch cords and fibre runs.
- Locating faults in patch cords with the VFL versions.
- Testing RJ45 LAN cables during network installs.
In the box
- Optical power meter, instruction booklet, lanyard and box.
- Network test remote with the RJ45 versions.
Note: The VFL versions emit a laser. Never look into the laser output or a live fibre end. Keep the dust caps on the ports when not testing.

Extra with RJ45 versions: Network test remote. Q: What range does this optical power meter measure? A: The standard versions measure from -70 to +6dBm. A version measuring -50 to +26dBm is also offered, for higher power signals.. Q: Does the meter show mW as well as dBm? A: Yes. It shows the linear (mW) value and the dBm value on the screen at the same time.. Q: Which connectors does the mini OPM accept? A: The optical port takes SC, FC and ST connectors.. Q: Are batteries included? A: The OPM-only version runs on dry batteries, which are not included. The VFL and RJ45 versions are labelled for a rechargeable lithium battery, and every version can also run from a USB power bank or computer.. Q: Can it test network cables? A: The RJ45 versions come with a network test remote; the meter's 8 numbered lights show each wire of the LAN cable under test..
