The VD-1 is a one-step optical fibre cleaver: lay the fibre in the clamp, press the top cover and the cut completes automatically, giving a cutting angle of about 0.5° on 125µm fibre. Its tungsten steel blade has 28 cutting surfaces and is rated for up to 48000 cuts, and a push switch on the base moves the blade to a fresh cutting point.
Features and Benefits
- One-step cutting - press the cover and the cut is done one-handed; the slide rail rebounds by itself afterwards.
- Three-in-one fixture with built-in scale - 0.25mm bare fibre, 0.9mm tail fibre and 2.5 to 3.0mm leather cable, no length gauge needed.
- 28-surface tungsten steel blade - up to 48000 cuts before a blade change.
- Push-switch cutting point change - move to a new point from the base without opening the tool.
- Safety lock - keeps the lid closed to protect the blade from knocks and the operator from accidental cuts.
- Adjustable blade height - set from the underside with the supplied hex keys.
- Removable waste fibre box - press the release button, lift the box off and empty the offcuts.
Applications
- FTTH drop cable and indoor leather cable termination.
- Fibre end preparation before fusion (hot melt) splicing.
- Mechanical (cold joint) fast connector assembly.
- Repairs at patch panels and splice closures.
In the box
VD-1 cleaver, clear protective storage case, two hex keys, instruction manual and colour box. Options marked with blade add a spare blade.
Note: Fibre offcuts are sharp and almost invisible. Keep the waste box fitted, empty it into a sealed container and wear safety glasses while cleaving.

A: On a one-step cleaver the cut happens as you close the lid. On the VD-1 you press the top cover, the cut completes automatically and the slide rail rebounds for the next fibre.. Q: What cleave angle does the VD-1 give? A: The published cutting angle is about 0.5° on 125µm bare fibre.. Q: Can it cut drop cable? A: Yes. The fixture has a slot for 2.5 to 3.0mm leather cable, and the listed fibre types include 3.0 x 2.0mm flat cable.. Q: How many cuts does the blade give? A: The tungsten steel blade has 28 cutting surfaces and is rated for up to 48000 cuts.. Q: How do I change to a new cutting point? A: Push the switch on the base of the cleaver to move the blade to the next cutting point..
