This pen-style visual fault locator sends a green 510nm or red 650nm laser into a fibre so breaks, tight bends and faulty connectors show up as a bright spot, with 15mW, 30mW or 50mW output depending on the version you choose.
The universal 2.5mm port takes FC, SC and ST connectors directly; LC connectors need an FC to LC adapter, sold separately. A slide switch on the body selects CW (steady light), OFF or GLINT (flashing). Power comes from an 18650 rechargeable lithium battery, supplied, which charges through a Type-C port and is rated for more than 10 hours of use and more than 1000 charge cycles. The 150mm aluminium alloy body is 25mm across and weighs 0.22kg with the battery, and the metal head and ceramic core can be replaced by the user.
Features and Benefits
- Green 510nm or red 650nm laser: choose the colour that suits your work and lighting.
- 15mW, 30mW or 50mW output: match the power to the length of fibre you test.
- CW, OFF and GLINT slide switch: steady light for tracing, flashing light to pick out a fault.
- Universal 2.5mm port for FC, SC and ST connectors, LC with an optional adapter.
- 18650 lithium battery with Type-C charging, rated at more than 10 hours.
- Aluminium alloy pen body with textured grip and hinged dust cap over the port.
- Replaceable metal head and ceramic core extend the working life of the pen.
Applications
- Finding breaks and bends in patch cords and pigtails.
- Checking continuity and identifying fibres in patch panels and FTTH drops.
- Testing patch panels and fibre assemblies after assembly.
- Locating faults near connectors and splice trays.
In the box
- Visual fault locator pen, 18650 rechargeable lithium battery, data cable, lanyard and packaging box.
Note: This tool emits a laser. Never look into the laser output or a live fibre end, and keep the dust cap closed when not testing. Ceramic cores are fragile, so do not force them when fitting.

Port cover: Hinged dust cap in the laser colour. Body markings: VISUAL FAULT LOCATOR, CW / OFF / GLINT. Power source: One 18650 lithium battery (supplied). Package contents: VFL pen, rechargeable lithium battery, data cable, lanyard, packaging box. Q: What is the difference between the green and red visual fault locator? A: The green version emits at 510nm and the red version at 650nm. Both use the same pen body, 2.5mm port, CW/OFF/GLINT switch and 18650 battery.. Q: Will this VFL fit LC connectors? A: The 2.5mm port takes FC, SC and ST connectors. For LC connectors you need an FC to LC adapter, which is sold separately.. Q: What battery does the fault locator use? A: It runs on one 18650 rechargeable lithium battery, included, which charges through the Type-C port. The seller rates it at more than 10 hours of use.. Q: How do I make the laser flash? A: Slide the switch on the body to GLINT for flashing output; CW gives a steady beam and OFF switches it off.. Q: Can the ceramic core be replaced? A: Yes. The metal head and ceramic core unscrew for cleaning or replacement; clean a dirty outlet with a cotton swab or lint-free paper and alcohol..
