A: It produces known test signals, such as sine, square, pulse or arbitrary waveforms, to feed into a circuit so you can see how it responds. The JDS6600 also has a frequency counter input for measuring an external signal.. Q: What sort of signal does a signal generator make? A: This one outputs sine, square, triangle, pulse, CMOS, DC level, half wave, full wave, rising and falling staircase, noise, exponential rise and fall, tone, sinc pulse and Lorentz pulse, plus 60 user-defined arbitrary waveforms.. Q: How does a signal generator work? A: The JDS6600 uses direct digital synthesis (DDS): each waveform is built from stored digital samples, here at 266MSa/s with 14 bit resolution, which allows frequency steps as fine as 0.01µHz.. Q: How do you use a signal generator with an oscilloscope? A: Connect CH1 to the scope or circuit with the BNC lead, pick the shape with the WAVE key, then set frequency, amplitude, offset, duty and phase with the soft keys and the knob before switching the channel on.. Q: Can the JDS6600 be controlled from a PC? A: Yes. It connects over USB as a serial device at 115200 bps, the command protocol is published, and PC software lets you draw arbitrary waveforms and download them to the generator..
