- What voltage range can this pen detect, and does it work on DC power?
- This tester detects AC voltages ranging from 12V up to 1000V. It operates at standard 50Hz or 60Hz mains frequencies. However, it only senses AC voltage and will not work on DC circuits like automotive batteries.
- Do I need to touch bare copper wires to see if they are live?
- No, you do not need to make direct contact. The tester uses electrostatic induction to sense voltage through wire insulation from up to 50mm away. The flame-retardant ABS plastic body helps keep you safe while testing household circuits.
- How does this tool help me distinguish between a live and neutral wire?
- When you place the tip near a live wire, the built-in LED lights up and the buzzer sounds. The neutral wire will not trigger these alerts if the circuit is wired correctly. This makes it easy to map out outlets and switches safely.
