This digital refractometer reads the sugar content of a liquid in Brix and shows the refractive index and sample temperature on one backlit LCD. The ST355A model is offered with a 0% to 55% Brix range or a 0% to 35% Brix range, with 0.1% Brix resolution and an accuracy of ±0.2% Brix.
Features and benefits:
- Two measuring ranges to choose from: 0% to 55% Brix or 0% to 35% Brix, so you can match the range to your samples
- 1.5 inch LCD with backlight: Brix, temperature and refractive index (1.333 to 1.426) are shown together and stay readable in dim rooms
- Optical refractive sensor: a reading takes seconds, with 0.1% Brix resolution and ±0.2% accuracy
- Automatic temperature compensation (ATC) over 10 to 40°C: cuts the error caused by warm or cool samples
- Dust-proof cover over the optical prism: protects the prism between uses and is easy to wipe clean
- Anti-slip sides and a compact ABS body of 113 x 56 x 26mm: sits steady in one hand at the bench or in the field
- Display language can be switched between English and a second language: hold the measurement and power buttons for 6 seconds with the unit off
Applications:
- Checking sugar content in fruit juice, soft drinks and carbonated drinks
- Brix checks on wine and beer during brewing
- Grading fruit by sugar level from growing to sale
- Teaching refractive index and solution concentration in school and college labs
In the box:
1 x digital refractometer, 2 x plastic droppers and 1 x English user manual. Batteries are not included.
Note: Needs 3 x 1.5V AAA batteries (not included). Use between 10 and 40°C. Keep the prism clean and dry, and wipe it after each sample so residue does not affect the next reading. Intended for laboratory, workshop, school, food and brewing use.

Q: What is a refractometer? A: A refractometer measures how much light bends as it passes through a liquid, which is called the refractive index. This one converts that reading into % Brix so you can judge the sugar content of a solution.. Q: How do you use a digital refractometer? A: Open the dust cover, place a few drops of the sample on the prism with a dropper, close the cover and press the measurement button. The Brix value, temperature and refractive index appear on the LCD within seconds.. Q: How do you zero a refractometer? A: This model has a Zero button. Put a drop of clean water on the prism, close the cover and use Zero so the display starts from 0.0% Brix. Wipe the prism dry before testing a sample.. Q: Which range should I pick, 0 to 55% or 0 to 35% Brix? A: Pick 0 to 55% Brix for syrups and other high sugar liquids. The 0 to 35% range suits juices, soft drinks and beer or wine samples that stay well below that level.. Q: Does it correct for sample temperature? A: Yes. Automatic temperature compensation works over 10 to 40°C and the sample temperature is shown on the screen next to the Brix reading..
