This handheld 3 in 1 refractometer reads sugar on a 0-40% Brix scale, alcohol on a 0-25% Vol scale and must weight on a 0-22 Baume scale from a few drops of sample. It has a minimum division of 0.2% on both the Brix and Vol scales, automatic temperature compensation from 10°C to 30°C, and a body about 170mm long, so it suits winemakers, brewers and home fermenters who want a quick reading at the vine or the vat.
Features and benefits:
- Three scales in one eyepiece view: % Brix, % Vol and Baume sit side by side, so one sample gives sugar, alcohol and must weight without swapping instruments.
- Brix range of 0-40% with 0.2% divisions: fine enough to follow grape ripeness and fermentation progress.
- Alcohol scale of 0-25% Vol with 0.2% divisions: meant for distilled liquid, and the scale shows an approximate degree of alcohol.
- Automatic temperature compensation from 10°C to 30°C: readings stay steady when the sample is not at room temperature.
- Chromium plated metal adjusting knob and an HD eyepiece with a visual adjustment hand wheel: the scale can be focused and the zero point set with the supplied screwdriver.
- Non-slip silicone handle on a lens barrel and handle body: stays put in a wet hand.
- Cover plate over the refractive prism: a few drops of sample are spread under it and the reading is taken where the blue and white fields meet the scale.
Applications:
- Checking grape sugar before harvest
- Following wine and must fermentation
- Measuring sugar content and Baume in juice and similar liquids
- Reading alcohol strength of distilled liquid
- School and workshop demonstrations of refraction
In the box:
- Refractometer
- Dropper pipette
- Screwdriver
- Cleaning cloth
- Instruction manual in English, Russian, Spanish, German, Japanese and Korean
Note: Set the zero point with 2 to 3 drops of distilled water before use, bringing the boundary onto the zero line. For alcohol, measure the liquid after distillation. Sugar and Baume can be measured directly in the liquid. Wipe the prism clean after each sample.

A: A refractometer measures how much light bends when it passes from the prism into a liquid, which relates to the dissolved sugar content. This handheld unit turns that into direct readings on Brix, Vol and Baume scales.. Q: How do you use a refractometer for wine? A: Put a few drops of sample on the main prism, close the cover plate and look into the eyepiece towards a light source. Read the scale where the blue and white boundary crosses it.. Q: How do you set the zero on a refractometer? A: Place 2 to 3 drops of distilled water on the prism, close the plate and look through the eyepiece. Turn the adjusting screw until the blue and white boundary sits exactly on the zero line.. Q: What does a Brix refractometer measure in grapes? A: It reads the sugar content of the juice on a 0-40% Brix scale with 0.2% divisions. The Baume scale on the same instrument runs 0-22 Baume.. Q: Can this refractometer measure alcohol in wine? A: The 0-25% Vol scale is meant for distilled liquid, so measure the liquid after distillation rather than the finished wine directly. The scale gives an approximate alcohol degree..
