This is a pocket-size Leeb hardness tester that combines the impact device and the controller in one pen-shaped body. It reads metal hardness in HL and converts to HV, HB, HS, HRA, HRB and HRC, with a stated accuracy of ±6 HL and a 128 x 64 dot matrix OLED screen.
Features and benefits:
- 7 hardness scales in one unit: HL, HV, HB, HS, HRA, HRB and HRC. The tester converts between them, so there is no need to look values up in a table.
- Built-in direction sensor in the probe: it compensates automatically for different impact directions, so readings can be taken at any angle.
- Dual-coil technology: accuracy is stated as ±6 HL and repeatability as 6HL.
- Two models: the LS252D has impact device D for general parts, polished surfaces and heat-treated surfaces, and the LS252DC has impact device DC for confined spaces such as holes, cylinders and internal checks on assembled machines.
- 10 built-in metal material settings, so the tester can be matched to the metal under test.
- Rechargeable 3.7V 250mAh lithium battery: a full charge is stated to give over 5000 continuous measurements, and it charges from a USB Type-C port.
- User re-adjustment: standard test blocks can be used to reduce error.
Applications:
- Checking hardness on steel, cast steel, alloy steel and stainless steel parts
- Testing grey cast iron, ductile iron, cast aluminium alloy, brass, bronze, pure copper and forged steel
- Spot checks on machine tool guides, bearings, pressure vessels, mould cavities and heavy workpieces
- Inspecting installed machinery and assembled parts without removing them

The product images show the tester and a black auxiliary impact rod or support accessory. Look at the product images for the accessories shown with your chosen model.
Note: Leeb readings depend on the material setting and on a suitable test surface. Use the correct material setting and check against standard test blocks where you need to confirm results.

Q: What is a hardness tester? A: A hardness tester measures how well a material resists indentation or rebound impact. This one is a Leeb type: a small impact body strikes the metal and the tester works out the HL value from the rebound.. Q: What is a Leeb hardness tester used for? A: It is used for quick hardness checks on metal parts, including steel, cast iron, aluminium alloy, brass and copper. Because it is pocket-size, it suits large or installed parts that cannot go on a bench tester.. Q: Is this a Rockwell hardness tester? A: No, it is a Leeb tester that converts its reading to Rockwell HRA, HRB and HRC, as well as HV, HB and HS. The converted values come from the rebound measurement, not from a Rockwell indentation test.. Q: What is the difference between the LS252D and LS252DC? A: The LS252D has impact device D and a longer 148mm body. The LS252DC has impact device DC and a shorter 88mm body for holes, cylinders and other confined spaces.. Q: Can it measure at an angle? A: Yes. A direction sensor in the probe compensates for the impact direction, so the tester can measure at any angle..
