- How do I choose the right width of desoldering braid for my project?
- We offer five nominal widths ranging from 1.5 mm to 3.5 mm. Choose a width that closely matches the size of the solder joint or PCB pad you need to clean. A wick that is too wide will block your view, while a narrow one won't absorb enough solder.
- Do I need to apply flux to this copper braid before using it?
- No, you do not need to add flux. This braid is made of oxygen-free copper pre-coated with a non-corrosive, rosin-based flux. The built-in flux makes up two to five percent of its weight, helping the copper wick solder quickly.
- What temperature should I set my soldering iron to when using this desoldering braid?
- We recommend setting your soldering iron between 300 and 400 degrees Celsius. Because copper conducts heat quickly, your iron needs enough heat to warm both the braid and the solder joint. Be careful not to overheat the board to prevent lifting delicate circuit pads.
