This optical time domain reflectometer is a handheld HJ1000 OTDR with a 3.5 inch capacitive touch screen and keypad that measures fibre length, loss, return loss and the position of breaks, splices and connectors over ranges up to 90km, with a 2.5m event dead zone. It is offered at 1310/1550nm (24/22dB), 1310nm (24dB), 1550nm, 1610nm or 1625nm (22dB), in APC or UPC.
Eight functions sit on one home screen: OTDR, event map, stable light source, optical power meter, red light VFL, loss test, RJ45 network cable sequence and tracking, and an LED torch. Traces save in the standard .sor format. Automatic optical protection guards the laser module, and filter models support live fibre testing with up to -2dBm of optical power on the line.
Features and Benefits
- Up to 90km range with 2.5m event and 8m attenuation dead zones - from patch leads to long feeders.
- Auto and manual test modes - one key for a quick test, or set range and pulse width yourself.
- Event map - connectors, splices and the fibre end shown as a simple link diagram.
- Touch screen plus keypad - operate by touch or by keys, and switch touch off if you prefer.
- RJ45 sequence and tracking - check network cables with the same tool.
- About 10 hours of measuring and 20 hours of standby - Type-C or wireless charging.
- Palm-size 17 x 12 x 3cm body at 340g - compact and light for field work.
Applications
- FTTH and PON installation and acceptance testing
- Locating breaks and macro bends on drop and backbone cables
- Splice and connector loss checks after jointing
- Network cable checks alongside fibre work
In the box
- OTDR, soft pouch, user guide and FC adapter with dust cap.
Note: The rear label rates the laser as Class 3B. Never look into the laser output or a live fibre end, and only test live fibre with a filter model.

A: It sends light pulses down a fibre and times the reflections to show the fibre length and where each connector, splice, bend or break is, with its loss. The HJ1000 shows this as a trace with an event table and as an event map.. Q: How do I use this OTDR tester? A: Clean and plug the fibre into the OTDR port, then press the test key briefly for an auto test or hold it for over 2 seconds for an average test. Manual mode lets you set wavelength, range and pulse width first.. Q: What is the maximum test range? A: Ranges go up to 90km, with dynamic range of 24dB at 1310nm and 22dB at the longer wavelengths. The minimum measurement is 2.5m.. Q: Can I test a live fibre? A: The seller states that filter models support online testing with up to -2dBm on the line, but does not say which options are filtered. Ask before ordering if you need live PON testing.. Q: How is it charged? A: Through the USB Type-C port at 5V/1A, or on a wireless charging pad. The seller quotes about 10 hours of measuring and 20 hours of standby..
