- How do I use this to find a live wire?
- Hold the pen tip near a wire or outlet, and it signals when AC voltage is present. You don't touch any bare metal, which keeps you safer. It also helps trace a break by showing where the live signal stops.
- Is it safe to use on household and higher voltage?
- It's rated CAT III 1000V, so it suits distribution wiring like outlets and panels. It detects AC from 24V up to 1000V at 50 to 60 Hz. Always test it on a known live source first to confirm it's working.
- What voltage range will it actually detect?
- It picks up AC voltage between 24V and 1000V. That covers normal mains circuits and many control or signal lines. It won't detect DC, and it only senses AC fields, so it's not a substitute for a multimeter reading.
