What does the 'PPR' number mean and how do I choose the right one?
PPR stands for 'Pulses Per Revolution,' which tells you the encoder's resolution. A 600PPR model outputs 600 electronic pulses for one full turn of its shaft, giving you much finer position or speed measurement than a 100PPR model. Choose the PPR based on the accuracy your project needs.
What voltage does this run on and what kind of output does it have?
This encoder works with a wide supply voltage range, from DC 5V to 24V, so it's compatible with most PLCs and control systems. It has an NPN open-collector output for the A and B phases, which is a common industrial standard. The current draw is 80mA.
How do I physically mount this encoder to my machine?
The encoder has a stainless steel body with a 38mm diameter and a 6mm shaft. You mount it using the three screw holes on the front face and connect the shaft to the rotating part you need to measure, usually with a flexible coupling. Make sure it's aligned properly to avoid putting stress on the bearings.
