Questions about this product
- What sort of jobs are these TCRT5000 sensors typically used for?
- These are often used for line-following robots, where they detect a black line on a white surface. You can also use them for object detection in a chute, as an encoder sensor to count rotations, or as a simple proximity switch.
- What's the best distance for this sensor to detect something?
- The optimal detection distance for the TCRT5000 is about 2.5mm from the surface. Its working range is from 0.2mm up to 15mm, but you'll get the most reliable signal at the recommended 2.5mm distance.
- What kind of output signal do I get from this sensor?
- The sensor's phototransistor gives an analogue output, where the voltage changes based on how much infrared light is reflected back. You can use this with an analogue input pin, or connect it to a comparator circuit to get a clean digital high/low signal for your project.
