- What is this low-temp solder wire used for?
- It's a rosin-core solder wire for electronics work, including BGA rework and touch-ups. The low melting point reduces heat stress on delicate boards and parts. It also handles general soldering and component repair on a bench.
- What diameters does it come in and how much wire?
- The wire is available in 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0mm. Thinner gauges suit fine pitch and small joints; thicker gauges feed faster on larger pads. Each spool holds 500 grams of solder.
- Do I still need separate flux with this wire?
- Usually no. The rosin flux is built into the core and runs about 2 to 3 percent, so it cleans the joint as you solder. For tough oxidized pads or BGA work, a little extra flux can still help the solder flow.
