Sensing Technology and Target Material Compatibility

Your target material determines the sensor type you need. If you must detect metallic components on a conveyor or machine axis, an inductive proximity sensor is the industry standard. These sensors use electromagnetic fields to detect iron or copper targets at close range.

For non-metallic targets, a capacitive proximity sensor or radar switch is required. These units can detect objects through solid barriers like glass or thin plastic walls. Magnetic reed switches work best for physical security on doors and shutters, where a magnetic field triggers the contact switch.

Selecting Output Configuration and Wiring

Selecting the correct npn pnp proximity sensor configuration is critical for PLC compatibility. NPN sensors pull the output signal down to the negative rail, acting as a sinking output. PNP sensors pull the signal up to the positive rail, acting as a sourcing output.

You must also match your system's operating voltage. Most standard industrial controllers operate on 6-36V DC, but we also stock options for low-voltage DC under 50V and standard AC systems up to 220V.

• Output Configuration: Choose Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) depending on your safety and logic requirements.
• Wiring Style: 3-wire DC configurations are standard for most industrial control loops.
• Voltage Matching: Verify whether your control circuit runs on 12V-24V DC, wider 6-36V DC bands, or mains 110V/220V AC.

Sizing and Housing Selection

Mechanical fit ensures your industrial proximity switch survives the operating environment. Standard threaded cylindrical housings allow for easy mounting and depth adjustment. Our range covers standard thread sizes from compact M8 and M12 proximity sensor units up to larger M18 and M30 housings.

Larger diameters generally offer longer detection distances, ranging from a tight 1mm up to 15mm or more. Copper and plastic bodies are available to match your environmental needs.
