- Which wire diameter should I pick for my work?
- It comes in 0.5mm up to 2.0mm. Use the thinner 0.5 to 0.8mm sizes for fine PCB and SMD work. Go thicker, around 1.2 to 2.0mm, for wires, terminals, and bigger joints.
- What iron temperature works best with this solder?
- It melts at 183C, the eutectic point for 63/37. Set your iron tip to roughly 300C to 350C for clean flow. The 2% rosin core feeds flux as you solder, so you usually don't need extra.
- Do I need to clean the flux residue off the board?
- Not for most jobs. The rosin flux residue is non-conductive and non-corrosive, so it can stay on the board. Clean it with isopropyl alcohol if you want a tidier look or before conformal coating.
