- How do I choose the right size tubing for my wires?
- This tubing has a 2:1 shrink ratio, meaning it shrinks to half its original diameter. You should choose a starting diameter that is larger than your wire bundle but smaller than twice that size. For example, our 6mm tubing shrinks down to a minimum of 3mm. Make sure your wire diameter falls comfortably between these two measurements for a tight fit.
- What tool do I need to shrink this tubing and at what temperature?
- You should use a heat gun for the best results. The tubing starts to shrink at 70°C and reaches full recovery at 110°C. Move the heat source evenly along the tube to prevent burns or uneven shrinking. Avoid using open flames like lighters, as they can easily scorch the polyolefin material.
- Can I use this heat shrink tubing for outdoor or automotive wiring?
- Yes, it works well in tough environments. It withstands temperatures from -55°C up to 125°C and resists common fluids and solvents. The black polyolefin also offers good UV resistance against sun damage. Keep in mind it's not fully waterproof since it lacks an inner adhesive lining.
