- How do I choose the right size tubing for my wires, and what does the 3:1 ratio mean?
- The 3:1 ratio means the tubing shrinks to one-third of its original starting diameter when heated. We offer sizes from 1.6mm up to 50.8mm to fit many cable sizes. Choose a size that slips easily over your wire but is small enough to shrink tightly around it. Keep in mind that the tubing will also shrink up to 8% in length.
- What temperature do I need to shrink this tubing and melt the adhesive?
- You need a heat source that reaches at least 70 °C to start the shrinking process. For a complete recovery and to melt the adhesive lining, heat the tubing to 110 °C. Use a heat gun or similar tool, moving it constantly to avoid burning the polyolefin outer wall. You will see the inner adhesive flow slightly at the ends, indicating a watertight seal.
- Can I use this heat shrink tubing outdoors or in wet environments?
- Yes, this tubing is highly suitable for outdoor and wet environments. The inner thermoplastic adhesive melts to create a moisture-resistant seal with under 0.5% water absorption. It operates safely from -45 °C to 125 °C and resists UV rays and common chemicals.
