- How do I choose the right size tubing, and what do the 3:1 and 4:1 shrink ratios mean?
- Select a tubing diameter that is larger than your widest cable or connector before shrinking. The 3:1 and 4:1 ratios mean the tubing will shrink down to one-third or one-fourth of its original size. This high shrinkage lets it fit tightly over oddly shaped connectors and thick wire splices.
- What temperature do I need to melt the adhesive and shrink this tubing properly?
- You need to heat the tubing to at least 70°C to start shrinking, but it recovers fully at 125°C. We recommend using a heat gun set between 110°C and 140°C. You will see the inner adhesive melt and squeeze out the ends, which creates the waterproof seal.
- Can I use this heat shrink tubing for outdoor or automotive wiring exposed to weather and fluids?
- Yes, this tubing handles harsh environments well. The dual-wall polyolefin resists UV rays and common automotive fluids while operating from -45°C to 125°C. Its inner adhesive melts to block out water, keeping your connections safe from corrosion.
