- No, you don't need to buy or install any batteries. This socket tester is mains powered, drawing its electricity directly from the outlet you're testing. It works perfectly on any standard US three-prong outlet.
- What specific wiring faults can this device detect, and what is its voltage limit?
- This tester detects open grounds, open neutrals, open hots, and reversed polarities on circuits from 90 to 250 volts AC. It also features a 30 milliamp test current to check your GFCI outlets. Do not use it on systems exceeding 250 volts.
- Is this tester safe for testing live home outlets, and what safety ratings does it have?
- Yes, it is safe for home and office use with an IEC 61010-1 CAT II 300V safety rating. The housing is made from ABS plastic to protect you from electrical hazards. Just make sure you use it in environments under 2000 meters in altitude.
