- What do I actually use a taper feeler gauge for?
- You slide the tapered blade into a gap or hole until it stops, then read the mark at the surface. That tells you the opening size. It's handy for welding inspection, checking hole diameters, and assessing gaps in machinery during assembly.
- What gap sizes can this gauge measure?
- It reads from 1mm up to 10mm, with metric graduations along the taper. The blade thickness grows from 1mm at the small mark to 10mm at the large end. That covers most common gaps you'll run into on a shop floor.
- Will this rust if I keep it in a damp workshop?
- It's made from stainless steel, so it holds up well against rust and wear. The surface is smooth and non-reflective, which keeps the etched markings readable. Still, wipe it dry after use in very humid spaces to keep it in top shape.
