- These TEK screws can drill through metal up to 12 gauge, which is about 2.7 millimeters thick. They work great for demanding metal-to-metal jobs like HVAC ductwork and steel framing. Trying to use them on thicker steel will likely dull the drill point.
- Are these 410 stainless steel screws highly rust-resistant for outdoor use?
- The 410 stainless steel construction offers moderate corrosion resistance and excellent strength. Because it is harder than other stainless grades, the screw can drill its own hole. However, it is less rust-resistant than 304 or 316 steel in wet outdoor environments.
- Do I need to drill a pilot hole before driving these screws?
- No, you do not need to pre-drill any holes. The self-drilling TEK point acts as a drill bit to pierce the metal for you. Just use a standard hex socket to drive them directly into the surface.
