What is the actual material of these bits, and why are they good for hard metals?
These bits are made from M35 High-Speed Steel with 5% cobalt alloyed directly into the metal. This composition gives them a high hardness of 65 to 67 HRC. They resist extreme heat and wear, so they stay sharp when drilling tough stainless steel or cast iron.
How fast can I spin these bits, and do I need to use coolant?
You should always use cutting fluid or coolant to keep heat down and extend bit life. For the largest 8mm bit, keep your speed under 800 RPM when drilling stainless steel. Smaller bits can run faster, but slower speeds and steady pressure work best for hard alloys.
Will these drill bits fit into my standard handheld drill?
Yes, these bits feature standard straight cylindrical shanks that fit standard three-jaw drill chucks. However, the tiny 0.5mm and 1.5mm bits break easily under hand pressure. We highly recommend using a drill press for those smallest sizes to keep them perfectly straight.
