- Which AWG size should I pick for LED strips versus a small motor?
- It depends on the current. For LED strips and signal wiring, 24 or 22 AWG is fine. For higher-draw jobs like motors, step up to 18 or 16 AWG. The 16 AWG handles roughly 22A in chassis wiring, while 24 AWG tops out near 3.5A.
- What is this wire actually meant for?
- It's flexible hook-up wire for internal electronics work. People use it for LED strip power, motor connections, and general DIY wiring. The fine-stranded copper bends easily around corners and into tight enclosures without the conductor breaking.
- How hot can this wire get before it's a problem?
- The PVC insulation is rated from -20C up to +80C, and the wire is good for 300V nominal. Stay inside the current limits for your gauge and don't run it near anything hotter than 80C. Beyond that the PVC starts to soften and degrade.
