- Can I use this gauge to spot repainted panels on a used car?
- Yes, that's a core use. The TC100 reads paint and coating thickness down to 0.1 micron, so it flags repaints, filler, and prior body repair. Many buyers use it for pre-purchase inspections to check a car's history.
- Does it work on both steel and aluminum bodies?
- Yes. The dual Fe/NF probe reads ferrous substrates like steel by magnetic induction and non-ferrous like aluminum by eddy current. It switches based on the surface, so you can check mixed car bodies with one tool.
- What thickness range and accuracy does it measure?
- It measures 0 to 1300 microns, covering thin factory paint up to thick undercoats and fillers. Resolution is 0.1 micron with accuracy around plus or minus 1% plus 1 micron. That's precise enough to catch small variations between panels.
