Selecting the correct optical setup depends entirely on your physical layout and target characteristics. Diffuse reflective models, such as the CDD-11N and E3Z-D61, project light and detect the reflection directly off the target object. This design simplifies installation because you only need to wire a single sensor housing on one side of the line.
For longer distances or high-contrast environments, retroreflective configurations or through-beam systems are preferred. For instance, our long-range infrared beam models can span up to 15 meters using a dedicated reflector, making them ideal for wider gates, entryways, or heavy machinery clearance zones.
Industrial controllers require specific digital outputs to process signals correctly. You must match the sensor's output style, either NPN (sinking) or PNP (sourcing), with your PLC or control module input requirements. Many of our standard diffuse-reflective models support both configurations or offer dedicated NPN/PNP options to simplify integration.
Voltage compatibility is equally critical. Standard factory automation lines usually run on 12-24V DC or 10-30V VDC, while microcontrollers and obstacle-avoidance modules often operate on a 5V DC logic level.
