Torx Size Guide: Every Common Size from T4 to T55

Compel Team

Torx fasteners come in a wide range of sizes, and picking the wrong one strips the screw or damages the bit. This guide covers every common Torx size from T4 to T55 with exact point-to-point dimensions and the applications where each size is most frequently used.

Torx Sizes for Electronics (T4-T9)

T4 through T9 are precision Torx sizes used almost exclusively in electronics and small devices. These are the sizes found in phones, laptops, game consoles, hard drives, and drones. A precision Torx set covering T4-T9 (or T3-T10 for broader coverage) handles virtually all consumer electronics.

T5 & T6: Laptop Essentials

T5 and T6 are the most common Torx sizes inside laptops. Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Apple all use T5 or T6 for internal screws including SSD mounting, heatsink screws, and keyboard frames. If you do laptop repair, T5 and T6 are your most-used Torx sizes.

T9: The Odd One Out

T9 is less common than T8 or T10 but still appears regularly. Some Samsung Galaxy phones, certain game controllers, and select small appliances use T9. It is easy to confuse with T8 or T10, so check carefully - forcing the wrong size will strip the screw head.

Torx Sizes for Automotive (T10-T55)

T10 and above are the sizes found in vehicles, machinery, and construction. The automotive sweet spot is T15, T20, T25, and T30 - these four sizes cover the vast majority of Torx fasteners on cars and trucks.

T25: The Most Common Large Torx

T25 is to large Torx what PH2 is to Phillips - the single most common size. It is used extensively in automotive (interior and exterior trim), construction (structural screws, decking), and furniture. If you only buy one large Torx driver, make it T25.

Pro Tip

A set of T5, T6, T8, T10, T15, T20, T25, and T30 covers roughly 95% of Torx fasteners you will encounter in electronics, automotive, and home repair combined. That is only 8 sizes.
