Pozidriv Screwdriver: The Phillips Alternative That Doesn't Cam Out

Pozidriv was developed in 1962 by GKN (Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds) specifically to eliminate the cam-out problem that plagues Phillips screws. It looks similar to Phillips but is a completely different system - and the two are not interchangeable.

How to Identify Pozidriv

Look at the screw head. A Pozidriv screw has a cross pattern plus four tick marks (small lines) at 45° between the cross arms. Phillips has a plain cross with no tick marks. If you see tick marks, use a Pozidriv driver. Using a Phillips driver on a Pozidriv screw damages the screw recess and wears the driver tip.
