What Size Screwdriver for Glasses?
Most eyeglasses use one of two screw types:
- 1.4 mm flat head (slotted) - the most common, found on metal and acetate frames
- M1.0 Phillips PH000 - used on some designer and rimless frames
The screws are typically M1.0 or M1.2 thread, 4–6 mm long. They are incredibly small - a standard precision screwdriver set with a 1.4 mm flat blade and PH000 Phillips covers virtually all eyeglasses.
How to Tighten Glasses Screws
- Fold the temple arm closed against the frame
- Insert the screwdriver blade into the hinge screw - make sure it seats fully
- Turn clockwise a quarter to half turn - do not overtighten or you will crack the hinge barrel
- Open and close the arm to check tension
