- What does this evaporator actually do for my bees?
- It treats varroa mites by heating oxalic acid crystals into a fine vapor. The vapor spreads through the hive and kills mites while keeping colony stress low. You apply it through the entrance, so you don't need to fully open the brood chamber.
- How do I power it out at the apiary?
- It runs on 12V DC and connects with alligator clips to an external battery. A standard car battery or a portable 12V pack works fine. That makes it practical for remote yards with no mains power nearby.
- Is it safe to handle right after a treatment?
- The metal body gets very hot, but the handle is insulated for safer holding during use. Plan for a 5 to 10 minute cool-down before you pack it away. Always wear a respirator and eye protection, since oxalic acid vapor is harmful to breathe.
